Common Era Timeline

Above and below: Two segments of the 6'x10 Common Era Timeline displayed at the Sherman Gallery at Ellis Island (see page 6 for full view). Two Timelines briefly describe key events in Armenian history from the period 9000 BCE to the present. The illustrations above show Trdat I, who was crowned King of Armenia in Rome in 66 CE, and Mesrob Mashtotz, who invented the Armenian alphabet in 404 CE. The illustration to the right is of Lord Byron, who spent time and studied Armenian at the Mekhitarist Monastery at San Lazzaro from 1816 to 1823. Due to the large dimension of the both Timelines, reducing it to fit on these pages would have made the type difficult to read. (See back page to order Timeline)
