Genocide Again: Darfur

New documentary with Public Television

The Center for Holocaust and Genocide Studies, in collaboration with Twin Cities Public Television (TPT), has just completed production of a 30-minute documentary about the Darfur genocide called Genocide Again: Darfur, designed for teachers and the general public. The film will be broadcast multiple times throughout the state of Minnesota this spring; the broadcast schedule will be announced shortly. Free copies with related curriculum materials will be available to educators; copies are available for the general public at $15 each. To receive a copy, please contact chgs@umn.edu or call 612-624-0256.

The documentary focuses on an activist, humanitarian aid worker, student leader, and survivor. Interviews highlight the work of Mark Hanis, executive director and founder of the Genocide Intervention Network, a non-governmental organization supporting civilian protection programs in Darfur and directing the Sudan Divestment Task Force; a humanitarian aid officer working in Africa, which operates refugee camps in Darfur; Anna Donnelly, past president of STAND, a university-based student anti-genocide coalition; and Augustino Ting Mayai, a lost boy of Sudan and director of a non-profit providing health and sanitation in Sudan. Footage from Darfur refugee camps was provided by Gabriel Stauring and Katie-Jay Scott of Stop Genocide Now, a California-based organization that sponsors the interactive exhibit Camp Darfur.

Support for the documentary was provided by Minnesota civic, educational, and faith-based organizations: CHGS; Genocide Intervention Network-Minnesota; Minnesota Interfaith Darfur Coalition; Rotary Club of Edina; STAND-UMN; and the United Nations Association of Minnesota.
