    There were natural springs along the river flowing through the center of the village. The women carried pails of fresh spring water from the cement wells to their homes for drinking and washing. The older peasants wore long skirts and scarves tied under their chins while the younger generation wore dresses midcalf length. Most women used to go barefoot.
