"Persephone" by Chandra Garsson
Myra Sklarew
Only you little collarbutton dared
to sing in death's courtyard: the Jews know
nothing yet they walk
in the marketplace at noon they are hauled
to the graveyard they kneel down say
goodbye to the whiteness of light the dead
no longer care what they wear the others
carelessly wearing their clothes Spinka little collar
button when I lie down on the earth
is it you I hear still singing
to that scattered remnant or were you buried
alive in their courtyard for loving them
